Following the success of the 1996-2004 calendars, Ben Marra Studios is proud to present a new calendar for 2005, published by Avalanche Publishing Company. POWWOW... Portraits of Native Americans beautifully portrays 13 North American Indian images photographed on location at various U.S. western powwows.

Adam Tsosie Nordwall

Since 1988, Ben Marra has been documenting with his camera the Native Americans who dance to the singing and drumming at the powwow. Keri Jhane Myers
Comanche Nation

Maa teah whe ka!  Greetings, my name is Keri Jhane Myers of the Comanche Nation of Oklahoma and the Gros Ventre, Blackfeet and Assiniboine Tribes of Montana.  I feel blessed to have been raised with the knowledge and traditions of my people.  I am of the Penneaduckah (sugar eater) and Yappaducah (root eater) Bands of the Comanche Nation.   My dance style is the Southern Buckskin of the Plains Tribes.  Dresses  are created for you by your family and friends.  All their prayers and good thoughts go into your dress and this is carried with you when you dance.  I'm the former Director of the Red Earth Festival in Oklahoma and I've been fortunate to work with organizations that promote positive images of our Native people.  But I do spend almost every weekend in my buckskin and that is by choice!  My best moments in life are spent watching my children continue in the circle of our traditions and culture!

Ah-ho!
